Divers Search Black River For Vehicle and Driver

On Sunday, January 8, 2006 at approximately 3:00 pm, units from Station 12, Station 10, and Headquarters Station were toned to respond to Ervin Road in the Bloomingville section of Williamsburg County, for a vehicle accident with the car reported being in Black River.

First unit on scene reported seeing signs of an accident, but with no vehicle visible in the water. As further units arrived, the determination was made that the vehicle was completely submerged in the river, with the driver still possibly in the vehicle.

Firefighters brought boats to the river to begin the initial search for the vehicle, and within a few minutes determined that divers, and more assistance was needed.

SC Department of Natural Resources was alerted, along with Winyah Rescue of Georgetown County and Berkeley County Rescue Squad were requested for divers, and SONAR equipment.

The driver of the vehicle was not in the vehicle after it was pulled from the water.

Units from  SCNDR and WCFD continued the search for the driver of the vehicle.
