Crews Stay Busy With Brush Fires Over this past week alone, the Williamsburg County Fire Department has ran over 35 brush/woods fires, bringing in the normal brush fire season. From homeowners letting their yard debris burns get away, to large acres burns jumping protective lines, etc., fire crews have stayed busy protecting homes and property. So we are asking that landowners please do your part in helping us! Following these few rules will help you keep a control on your fire and protecting the property and lives of your neighbors. 1)If you live in a rural area of the county (an area not inside corporate city limits, if you live inside city limits, call you local fire dept), call the SC Forestry Commission. (Yard Debris burning - Go Here for the number / Forestry, Wildlife, Agriculture burns - Go Here) 2) Stay with your fire, and put a wet line around your fire if possible. 3)Make sure you have enough resources to out your fire if needed; ie, bucket of water, rake, shovel, etc. 4) If you feel like your fire is out of control, do not hesitate to call 911. When you call give the dispatcher your name, address, and phone number, because we can not send units if you can't give us where you are, and what is happening!! 5) Also, remember "Your Fire Is Your Responsibility!", if YOUR fire burns others property, you may be charged and have to pay a fine!
